ABOUT THE TEACHER

PROFESSIONAL BIO

Cellist and composer David Fenwick is a teacher and performer based in upstate New York. He holds degrees from Boston University, Boston Conservatory at Berklee, and Ithaca College. Until recently he was based in Boston earning a degree in contemporary classical music. There he performed with the contemporary ensemble at Boston Conservatory, as well as freelance solo and chamber performing in the greater Boston area. David is also an active performer of contemporary music.

David has previously taught both as a private instructor, through music schools in the central NY area and in Boston, as well as at Ithaca College. As an instructor, he is focused on providing a nurturing and exploratory space for students to find their passion with their instrument. Early lessons focus on approaching the instrument in a relaxed freeing way, finding a physical setup that will enable the student to have the most flexibility in performance. Beginning cello students typically use Suzuki method books, in which David has taken certification training. However, the curriculum is frequently adjusted based on the student’s interests and goals.
